Evaluating theories of bilingual language control using computational models

•Semantic priming was eliminated after bilinguals switch languages.•Incremental learning effects were not eliminated after switching languages.•Priming was found within a language.•Words within a language do not compete, but they do compete between languages.•These results were confirmed by computational modeling.
