Ultrasonic-assisted synthesis, characterizing the structure and DFT calculation of a new Pb(II)-chloride metal-ligand coordination polymer as a precursor for preparation of α-PbO nanoparticles

•A novel Pb(II)-chloride metal-ligand coordination polymer was synthesized.•Branched-tube method and sonochemical reaction used to synthesis of metal-ligand coordination polymer.•The crystal structure of the compound is reported.•2D crystal structure showed two Pb coordination sphere with different coordination numbers.•Nanorods metal-ligand coordination compound used as precursor to obtained α-PbO nanostructures.
