Coulomb stress changes triggering surface pop-up during the 2016 Mw 6.4 Meinong earthquake with implications for earthquake-induced mud diapiring in SW Taiwan

•Coseismic surface pop-up of the 2016 Meinong earthquake is due to crust volumetric strain change.•The coseismic strain change is characterized by shallow dilatation and underlying contraction.•Mud diapiring under pop-up is likely triggered by ‘squeezing” contract strain at base of reservoir.
