Ferovinone, A New Humulane from Ferula ovina

The new humulane-type (γ-apiene) ester ferovinone was isolated from roots of Ferula ovina (Boiss.) Boiss. Its structure was elucidated by analyzing PMR and 13 C NMR spectra and DEPT, HSQC, COSY, and HMBC experiments and performing an X-ray crystal structure analysis. The molecular structure and absolute configuration of ferovinone were established. Ferovinone adopted the 14,15 U 7 8 conformation of the 11-membered humulane macrocycle in which a C8 p-benzoate group occupied a β-equatorial position and the only chiral center had the 8S-configuration.
