Low-field magnetocaloric effect of NdFe_11Ti and SmFe_10V_2 compounds

To substitute NdFeB in many fields, the 1–12 phase is actively studied. That’s the reason why magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of ThMn_12 have been investigated. NdFe_11Ti and SmFe_10V_2 were synthesized form bulk materials by arc melting and reduced into a powder by high energy ball milling to obtained a nanometric powder. Then, the powder was annealed in a furnace at different temperatures to crystallize the phase. Rietveld refinement showed that these two alloys crystallized in a ThMn_12 tetragonal structure which can be described by the I 4/ mmm space group. We found T_C=552 K , μ _0H_C=1.2× 10^-2 T , RCP=42 J.kg^-1 for NdFe_11Ti and T_C=603 K , μ _0H_C=0.4 T , RCP=46 J.kg^-1 for SmFe_10V_2 . It can be assumed that SmFe_10V_2 is a hard magnet but not NdFe_11Ti , both could be used as heat-pump.
