Bony Tissues Of The Supra-Orbital In The Milkfish Chanos Chanos (Forskal, 1775) (Chanidae: Gonorynchiforme)

The histological study of ground sections of the supra-orbital of Chanos chanos (Chanidae: Gonorynchiforme), confirms that their bony tissues contain true enclosed star-shaped osteocytes. Therefore this taxon is a cellular-bone fish. Moreover the histological organization shows that the supra-orbital is clearly an hyperostotic-like formation.
