摘要

•The α-Fe2O3-TiO2:X (X = Co, Cu, Bi) photoanodes were prepared by a spin coating method.•PEC performance was improved significantly by TiO2-metal doping.•The enhancement was induced by surface states and heterostructure formation.•The α-Fe2O3-TiO2:Bi exhibited the highest photocurrent and photoconversion efficiency.
