Based on a worldwide survey with 239 participants, this article takes a closer look at the current use and future trends of simulation. Simulation will become much more relevant in the future, especially in the operational phase of plants. According to the participants, the most important technological trends include simulation and cloud solutions. Accordingly, an industry-wide opening regarding the sharing and use of simulation models is to take place. In addition to the survey results, a 10-year technology outlook and its derived theses are presented on the basis of expert interviews.
