Theoretical and numerical analysis for thermal runaway propagation within a single cell

•A reaction-conduction theory is developed for in-cell runaway propagation.•Analytical solution from asymptotic analysis is acquired for propagation speed.•Numerical solution is acquired from phase portrait and heteroclinic orbit.•Good agreement between analytical and numerical solution.•Capable to evaluate thermal runaway propagation speed at various conditions.
