Antibiotic Susceptibility And Antibacterial Effect Of Juniperus Communis And Zingiber Officinale Essential Oils Against Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus

Metliicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is accountable for numerous intractable infections in humans. The incidence of MRSA has expanded in the past decade and serious community-acquired infection in Saudi Arabia. Here, MRSA isolates was identified based on standard techniques. Susceptibility to antibiotics was achieved utilizing VITEK 2 system. Antibacterial effect of the essential oils was tested by the agar disk diffusion method. Antibiotic susceptibility of MRSA isolates showed varying degrees of susceptibility patterns against the tested antibiotics. All isolates were susceptible to Tigecycline, Teicoplanin, Mupirocin, and Moxifloxacin. Juniperus communis and Zingiber officinale essential oils demonstrated activity against isolates but with different degrees. Z. officinale oil has the highest antibacterial activity. Antibacterial activity of J. communis and Z. officinale essential oils against MRSA is of great relevance. Due to the emergence of MRSA, combination between medicinal plant essential oils and antibiotics could give better activity.
