Spatial analysis is the key and the core to GIS, and it is the primary characteristic to be distinguished from other information system. Nowadays, with the development of computer science and network technology, WebGIS has been an important direction of GIS. As we known, it has the powerful ability for data dissemination, however, the spatial analysis ability is too weak to meet our most applications. So how to enhance the spatial analysis ability of WebGIS is the important question to be solved.ArcIMS is the important product of ESRI for solution of WebGIS. There is no doubt about its powerful ability to disseminate spatial data, but high-level spatial analysis is relative. weak. How to realize the complex spatial analysis in the practical application? This article analyzes the characteristic of Java Connector and several methods of solving the insufficient ability of ArcIMS, then selects the method which unifies the Java independent application and JSP/Servlet. Through using JavaBean, Java Class as well as the Interface provided by Java Connector, the technology of Java Server Pages and the technology of Ajax to realize extension to solve insufficient ability in the spatial analysis. Finally, take the irregular dual buffer analysis and withdrawing the results by superposing different layers as example to demonstrate the paper provides a new scheme to solve the ArcIMS limitation of the spatial analysis ability.
