Low Cost Soa Based Platform Independent Back-End Data Acquisition System

In this paper the construction of a low cost data acquisition system, based on code generator tools that we built, is shown. A microcontroller is a key component used to read from analog-to-digital converter which receives instructions from client applications. The microcontroller runs platform independent code being accessed by clients as common CORBA or Web Services servers through bind servers. A bind server translates high level requests coming from clients to simple ones dedicated to microcontrollers. Both bind and embedded servers are generated by code generators that we built. Generated embedded server code size after compilation is very small making it possible to be written on limited devices such as 8051 microcontrollers. The data acquisition system, organized in a service oriented (SOA) fashion, consists of several modules. Modules read periodically battery output voltage for which the system is built and store it to a database. Modules can fire alarms when data is out of predefined limits. At the end a graph of the data obtained in function of time is shown.
