摘要
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the intake of periwinkles on levels of antioxidant enzymes. Antioxidants were measured in liver and kidney of young rats fed with either casein or periwinkles as the source of dietary protein, for 4 weeks. Renal and hepatic glutathione peroxidase and renal catalase activities were higher in the periwinkle-fed group, whereas hepatic and renal superoxide dismutase activities were not altered by periwinkle intake. The results of this study provide evidence that the consumption of periwinkles can maintain the antioxidant status in liver and kidney and thus protect against oxidative damage.
