摘要
This chapter discusses conservation planning efforts for the Chinese pangolin (Manis pentadactyla) in Taiwan. In collaboration with the IUCN SSC Conservation Planning and Pangolin Specialist Groups, and with government agencies including the Council of Agriculture, the Forest Bureau, and the Endemic Species Research Institute, Taipei Zoo hosted two pangolin Population and Habitat Viability Assessment (PHVA) workshops, one in 2004 and again in 2017. These workshops led to the identification of important knowledge gaps, research needs and conservation actions, and the development of national strategies for the Chinese pangolin in Taiwan. Implementation of research and conservation actions during the intervening 13 years by universities, ecology-related businesses, ex situ facilities, and government generated new knowledge and Chinese pangolin populations appear to be stable in Taiwan. The Formosan Pangolin Core Group (FPCG) established during the second pangolin PHVA workshop is responsible for coordinating future conservation activities.
