Design And Development Of Domestic Cyclone Dust Collector System

In a typical vacuum cleaner, a filter media or bag is used to separate dust and other dirt particles from flowing air streams. However, over time this process reduces the efficiency of the vacuum cleaner as more dirt are accumulated on the filter surface. This study is about design and development of a domestic cyclone dust collector system based on Classical Cyclone Design (CCD) process. In this case, cyclone dust collector is a two -staged dust collector system that can be attached to existing vacuum cleaners. CATIA software was used in the design process whilst Ansys was used to simulate the air flow. A working prototype was fabricated for testing. Based on results, the cyclone dust collector system has a fractional efficiency of more than 99% for particles with an average diameter of more than 50 lam. The application of this dust collector system would offer better efficiency and less maintenance compared to conventional system.
