Mie and Henvey-Greenstein phase functions of discrete random media with a special size distribution are compared; sampling technique of Mie phase function are given, sampled results are compared with Henyey-Greenstein phase function. Based on these two phase functions, the scattering characteristics of clear sky cumulus are computed by using of the Monte Carlo method. From the results, we can conclude that it will cause large errors in the Monte Carlo radiative transfer simulations with the H-G phase function instead of the Mie phase function.
