The microprocessor, laptop and industrial PC are widely used as control unit in 2D resistivity imaging survey system nowadays. As a simple and convenient type of microcontroller, microprocessor has some disadvantages in instrument design, such as less I/O ports, low speed and shortage of extension, etc. PC has powerful advantages in data processing, display and short period for instrument design compared with microprocessor, but it is difficult in I/O extension and has large power consumption. Hence this paper presents a new idea in designing 2D resistivity imaging meter based on ARM7. The system includes keyboard, LCD, USB interface and intelligent electrodes. The properties of low consumption, high accuracy and perfect functions have been satisfactorily achieved in this system.
