Most Latin American economies have a limited degree of innovation. Regardless of the indicator used, comparisons of the reality of the region to the more developed countries show substantial differences that have grown larger over time, rather than diminishing. Even more worrisome, however, are that the gaps vis-à-vis other emerging economies—especially in Asia—have widened as well.
