This presentation is dedicated to recent approaches aimed to get insight in spoken Romanian specificities trough effective realization and phonemic status of the vocalic inventory. In particular, I will discuss the phonological properties of (sic) [Lambda](1) and (a) over cap [(sic)] and describe different acoustic and ASR analyses conducted to circumscribe their position in the system.
