Ocean buoy is one of the important methods to obtain ocean data. So far, many scholars have done a lot of research on the hydrodynamic performance, mooring systems and sensor systems in buoy. Few scholars pay attention to the design of the buoys. Therefore, this paper focus on the design of buoy. Firstly, the mathematical model of the ideal cylindrical buoy structure is established, and the influence of geometric size, average density and system damping on the amplification factor of the buoy is analyzed. Secondly, the design of small waterplane area buoy is proposed, and an optimal radius size range is found for buoy designing. Finally, the experimental model is designed and the experiment shows that the small waterplane area has good stability. This conclusion can guide the design of marine buoy in the future.
