Self-reported sleep efficiency and duration are associated with bioenergetic function in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of adults

•The cellular mechanisms linking sleep with aging and health are poorly understood.•Lower sleep efficiency was associated with lower bioenergetic health.•Those with longer sleep duration also demonstrated lower bioenergetic health.•Bioenergetics may be a potential target for sleep and health relevant interventions.
