Reliabilities of Intra-Individual Mean and Intra-Individual Variability of Self-Reported Pain Derived From Ecological Momentary Assessments: Results From the Einstein Aging Study

•Using EMA, we can capture within-person mean (IIM) and variability (IIV) of pain.•Assessing reliability of pain IIV is important but not well examined in prior research.•High reliabilities of pain IIM and IIV could be achieved in community-dwelling older adults.•Future work should consider utilizing EMA to capture pain IIV and link IIV to health outcomes.
