Assessment of cefepime toxicodynamics: comprehensive examination of pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic targets for cefepime-induced neurotoxicity and evaluation of current dosing guidelines

•Different cefepime pharmacokinetic parameters were reviewed for the prediction of neurotoxicity.•A cefepime trough plasma concentration of 49 mg/L is the optimal target for neurotoxicity.•Recommended cefepime dosage adjustments for renal impairment are suboptimal.
