Enhanced chondrogenesis from chondrocytes co-cultured on mesenchymal stromal cells: Implication for cartilage repair

•Articular cartilage has limited capacity of repairing and regeneration.•Limitations of using chondrocytes for cartilage regeneration include their low capacity of proliferation and dedifferentiation in cultures.•Here we show a coculture system of chondrocytes and MSCs, which provide high number of functional chondrocytes in a short period of time.
