Outcomes of combined aortic and mitral valve replacement with reconstruction of the fibrous skeleton of the heart

The images illustrate 2 types of complex reconstructive operative procedures used to treat patients with left fibrous skeleton of the heart destroyed by calcification, infection, or multiple previous valve replacements. These operations are associated with high operative mortality and morbidity but most of these patients have no other alternative treatment and would not survive without them.
