Fish allergy, which is usually a lifelong disease, occurs mostly in countries with high fish consumption, including Japan, and presents with mild to severe symptoms, such as oral allergy syndrome, diarrhea, urticaria, dyspnea, and in severe cases, even life-threatening anaphylactic shock (reviewed in Kuehn ). β-parvalbumin and collagen, which are both well-known fish allergens, are cross-reactive allergens present in various species of fish (reviewed in Kuehn )..
