•Proanthocyanidins and carotenoids were evaluated for the first time in P. tenuifila.•Fruits presents high contents of phenolic compounds and elevated antioxidant potential.•P. tenuifila fruits are a good source of dietary fiber.•Both ripening stages provides similar flavonoids profiles and proximate composition.
