Study Of The Prototype Filter And Bit Error Rate For The Filter Bank Multi-Carrier System

Filter Bank based Multicarrier (FBMC) system is one of the candidate waveforms for 5G.It gets better spectral properties by using multiple prototype filters and Offset Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (OQAM) compared to the CP-OFDM system. This paper mainly discusses the performance of the FBMC system. The influence of the prototype filter with different overlap factors are discussed; the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance are analyzed and simulated for the FBMC system with different prototype filters and constellations. The results show that both CP-OFDM and FBMC system have the same BER performance in AWGN channel; in multi-path channel, the Cyclic Prefix must be used in OFDM system to overcome the inter-symbol interference, and the FBMC system has higher spectral efficiency.
