•The mCRP level in AAV correlates with the proportion of mCRP-positive platelets.•mCRP can bind the lipid raft of platelets and induce the release of mtDNA.•mtDNA released by mCRP-activated platelets enhances the pathogenicity of ANCA.•mtDNA released by mCRP-activated platelets activates the coagulation system.
