From type 1 diabetes biology to therapy: The Human Islet Research Network

Type 1 diabetes researchers are enjoying unparalleled access to data, methods, technology, human samples, and expertise. Capitalizing on this foundation, the Human Islet Research Network (HIRN) was formed to foster a collaborative environment and define collective targets to address fundamental questions in human islet biology and advance therapeutic strategies for the millions of people living with type 1 diabetes. In a new series of review articles in Molecular Metabolism, HIRN members summarize exciting discoveries, discuss promising approaches, issue grand challenges, and project directions for future work.
