•Punicalagin and ellagic acid were extracted from pomegranate residue.•Sugars were extracted at all conditions including by CO2:15 wt% ethanol.•The extraction method modulated the extract composition in sugar and phenolics.•Supercritical extraction led to the highest selectivity among phenolics.•Supercritical extracts exhibited the lowest content in sugar.
