Synthesis of silver nanoparticles in liquid reactive oligomers for the development of biocidal composites

Silver nanoparticles were synthesised in epoxy oligomers and polyols at room and elevated temperatures. Stable dispersions of silver nanoparticles in epoxy oligomers with narrow size distribution were obtained. The size distribution was confirmed by dynamic light scattering. The size distribution was characterised by scattering intensity, volume and the number of particles. Estimating the reduction rate of silver ions and the relative concentration of its nanoparticles in oligomeric media by UV–vis spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering was proposed, and the biocidal activity of the solid epoxy-amine films with silver nanoparticles was revealed by the MTT assay.
