Atmospheric and Ionospheric Disturbances Caused by Tsunamis

The subject of atmospheric gravity waves produced by tsunamis and the subsequent generation of ionospheric disturbances is reviewed. In reviewing the theory, particular emphasis is placed on the similarities between the theory of mountain waves and tsunami-generated gravity waves. Many observational and theoretical studies are described, and a brief set of outstanding issues are provided.
