摘要

•Multiple sequence alignment and phylogenetic analysis revealed that GhLOX2 is a 13-LOX gene.•Knock-down of GhLOX2 compromised cotton resistance to Verticillium dahliae.•GhLOX2 is a positive regulator of JA signaling during infection of Verticillium dahliae in cotton.•Lignin metabolism and reactive oxygen species may regulate cotton resistance to Verticillium dahliae.
