Perioperative pediatric mortality in Ethiopia: A prospective cohort study

•Perioperative mortality rate was a quality indicator of perioperative care.•There was recording of excellent outcome for pediatric surgery.•Pediatric perioperative mortality rates were still higher in low income African countries.•Emergency surgeries were associated with an increased risk of pediatric perioperative mortality within 7 days of surgery.•Pediatrics were more risk at emergent status than elective during perioperative period.
