•The TT genotype of the TLR7 rs179008 increased the susceptibility to HSV-1 infection.•The C allele of the TLR9 rs5743836 decreased the infection risk by HCMV.•The TT genotype of the TLR7 rs179008 affected the risk of pregnancy-related hypertension.•Epistatic interactions between TLR7-TLR9 affected the risk of herpesvirus infections.•A potential prognostic value of TLR7 and TLR9 SNPs in gestational health was observed.
