Aberrant prefrontal cortex (PFC) activity occurs in patients with neuropsychiatric disorders during sustained attention tasks, suggesting that PFC dysfunction underlies attention deficits in these patients. However, the mechanisms by which the PFC regulates sustained attention remain unclear.
