Antigen presentation by mouse monocyte-derived cells: Re-evaluating the concept of monocyte-derived dendritic cells

•The concept of monocyte-derived cells capable of antigen presentation has been challenged by recent findings.•Studies based on monocyte depletion or adoptive transfer have provided solid evidence for the presence of bona fide mo-DCs in tissues.•We propose a model in which cDCs and mo-DC play complementary roles for the optimal induction of T cell responses.
