Letter To The Editor: Fine-Needle Aspiration Cytology And Core-Needle Biopsy In The Diagnosis Of Lymphadenopathies: Words Of Endorsement

we read with interest the letter to the Editor by Pizzi et al.: "Lymph node core needle biopsy for the diagnosis of lymphoproliferative disorders: a word of caution" which is a comment to an article by Cohen et al. Pizzi et al. maintain that lymph node core needle biopsy (LN-CB) should not be adopted routinely and that incisional/excisional (surgical) biopsy should be performed in all suitable cases. The authors reported some cases in which the histological examination of the whole lymph node redefined and corrected diagnoses previously performed by LN-CB. Although we agree that in specific cases surgical biopsy is warranted to diagnose or classify lymphadenopathies, we humbly dissent from the authors conclusions for the following reasons.
