Sociodemographic and Body Mass Index Profile of Type II Diabetic Mellitus Patients in Rural Ajmer, India

Background : According to International Diabetes Federation around 463 million people had diabetes mellitus (DM) in 2019 and this number is expected to rise to 700 million by 2045. India is the diabetes capital, 77 million people with DM in India in 2019. Materials and Methods : It was hospital-based observational, descriptive study among 160 study subjects to study the epidemiological factors associated with known case of Type II DM (T2DM). Results : Most of the cases of T2DM were between 50 and 69 years 99 (61.87%). Out 160 cases of T2DM, majority 133 (83.12%) belonged to Hindu religion. The most of the study participants were from upper to middle class 141 (88.12%). Majority of male participants were from Body Mass Index class 25.00 to 29.99. Conclusion : It was observed that majority male cases of T2DM belonged upper middle socio-economic class, whereas females were from upper class. Majority of females were literate although lesser female. Key words : Body mass index, risk factors, socioeconomic status, Type II diabetes mellitus
