摘要
Abstract In this research study we report the fabrication of a cross-linkable calcium phosphate biocomposite to engineer a replica mandible bone structure for surgical implantation. This novel material has been used to form an orthopaedic scaffold implant, which has been 3D printed with trabecular features, 280 μm channels with tuneable and controllable surface properties, architecture and external pore geometry. The biomaterial properties and the developed extrusion processes were optimized to create a 3D printable polymer-based hydrogel that was later sintered at 1200 °C to form a final structural implant which has a compressive strength of 60 MPa. The relationship between mechanical integrity properties and deposition properties was studied in order to generate an optimal implant. Using the process detailed in this study we have created a biologically compatible structural bone implant for facial surgical treatments that can be carried out at the point of care.
