Octupole Correlations In I-127

In-beam gamma-ray spectroscopy of I-127 was carried out following Sn-124 (Li-7, 4n gamma) fusion-evaporation reaction at a beam energy of 33 MeV. Ratio of the electric dipole (E1) and electric quadrupole (E2) transition probabilities [B(E1)/B (E2)] for the transitions depopulating from the I-pi = 15/2(-),19/2(-) states have been extracted from this study. Existence of enhanced E1 transition rates between the opposite parity bands, associated dominantly with [402]5/2(+) and [550]1/2(-) configurations, provides an indication of octupole correlations in this nucleus
