•Women with premature ovarian insufficiency exhibited abnormalities in lipid metabolism and glucose metabolism, and a deficiency in kidney function.•Body mass index, parity, gravidity, FSH and E2 levels were independent factors associated with the metabolic profile of women with premature ovarian insufficiency.•Early detection and lifelong management of metabolic abnormalities are needed in women with premature ovarian insufficiency.
