•Continuous pressure monitoring provides a robust means for detection of postural movements.•Movements detection was achieved by combining pressure parameters and intelligent processing.•Posture and mobility were successfully detected in a cohort of Spinal Cord Injured patients.•The novel algorithm could offer the potential for targeted interventions for pressure ulcer prevention.
