Background: Patient flow is an inherently challenging process exacerbated by the demands of a busy pediatric academic center and seasonal illnesses. When patient flow is not optimized, it leads to delays in patient care, patient and staff dissatisfaction, and potential financial loss. There are multiple stakeholders involved in this logistically complex process.
