摘要

•Rule-based method for diagnosing fog from NWP forecast provided POD (FAR) scores of 0.62 (0.37).•The use of LWC as a rule provided unfavourable scores of 0.37 (0.31) for POD (FAR).•The inclusion of the surface inversion layer height as a variable improved the score.•Spatial distribution of model rule-based fog patches compared favourably to satellite fog patches.
