Background: Pregnancy is a physiological phenomenon for most women. However, some develop problems during its evolution, putting both the mother's and the conceptus' health at stake. Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are major complications of pregnancy and are important cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality leading to 10-15% of maternal deaths, especially in developing world. To Aim and Objective: estimate the prevalence of hypertension in pregnancy in health block Hajin of Kashmir valley. This is a cross sectional Material and methods: study conducted for a period of one year to estimate the prevalence of hypertension in pregnancy in a eld practice area of the department of community medicine, SKIMS. The data so collected was compiled and subjected to analysis using SPSS version 20.00, Chicago, USA for windows. The prevalence of hypertension in pregnancy was 7.4% (26 women out of 350). The hypertensive disorders in the study were Results: contributed by chronic hypertension in 46.2%, gestational hypertension in 42.3% and pre-eclampsia in11.5%. The study stresses on Conclusion: need of proper monitoring of blood pressure of all pregnant ladies during antenatal checkups so that early diagnosis and treatment of hypertension is initiated.
