Background: Neonatal mortality has emerged as a key area of intervention in the post-Millennium Development Goal era. Trainings on newborn resuscitation and care have existed for many years but do not always incorporate supervision of trainees in clinical settings over time. The Global Health Service Partnership (GHSP) embeds US volunteers as faculty within training institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa with high rates of neonatal mortality and supports volunteers to teach and supervise neonatal care over multiple years.
