Development of enhanced drug delivery vehicles for three cannabis-based terpenes using poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) based nanoparticles

•Beta-myrcene, beta-caryophyllene, & nerolidol are Cannabis-derived terpenes with therapeutic potential.•Nanocarriers can improve the solubility and bioavailability of volatile and hydrophobic terpenes.•Poly(lactide-co-glycolide) nanoparticles successfully encapsulated these three terpenes.•Optimization of nanoparticle synthesis methods enhanced terpene loading efficiency.•These newly developed nanosystems show promise for drug delivery of cannabis-based terpenes.
