Mycobiome analysis for distinguishing the geographical origins of sesame seeds

•A mycobiome (fungal microbiome) analysis of sesame seeds from various countries was performed.•Optimal parameters for PLS-DA model based on fungal genera profiles were suggested.•The PLS-DA model successfully differentiated the geographical origins of sesame seeds.•Alternaria, Aspergillus, and Macrophomina were the characteristic genera for the differentiation.
